Mixpak has been fucking murdering the dancehall so far in 2013. What I’ve loved is that they have been able to put out releases like Dubbel Dutch’s Self Help Riddim and the Pressure Vol 2 that are so forward thinking yet maintain the integrity of dancehall in a way that Major Lazer will never be able to succeed at (sorry noobs).

If you’ve followed this site for a few years then you know that we are dancehall maniacs as well as Douster maniacs. I might just be ignorant but Douster’s output has seemed to be less in the last few years. We’re happy to hear him again and these riddims are pretty tight.

First up the track Dollar Sign starts things off hard. Things slow down for Like a Genie and then get faster and optimistic for Never Lose. Finally Douster ends off in the 130bpm territory where we first got to know him as a dancehall/house hybrid. Best in our opinion are Dollar Sign and Never Lose. Check out the EP yourself:

Here is a free EP that came out about a month ago. It’s some really percussive stuff that might work for some of your sets. I will admit that I like stuff like this. It verges on a kind of dutchy sound at times which is played out but I will have to say that is a good grab.

We are proud to present to you, the new Z Sonic The Ultrasonic EP from BDR Dancefloor. This is some seriously different moombahton. If you’re like me and you’re at the point where you almost want to refuse to have anything to do with bleepy dutch housey moombahton then this is the answer to your prayers. There is techno here. There is jazz. There is tribal. There is an Eastern influence. There is a Latin element. Its all tied together by the dem bow beat. If you have even wondered what to say to someone when they tell you that moombahton is limited by dem bow, just shut up and play them this. We become so focused on the thick of the forest of unoriginal mediocrity that we forget at times the immense open space that surrounds it.

The first track Ultrasonic Being is like this metallic stomper of a track that contrasts well with the jazzy second track Jazz Acid. The next track Blizzard in the Temple is like you are in the Andes and hanging out with Incas in the year 2356 and there is a really intense party. The last is like you are in a jungle of frogs and other creatures partying but they’re all robot creatures. Does that make sense? No? Whatever. The tracks and DL link are below.
